We have been asked by Brian Reid of Cayauga, ON. to begin a downsizing of his extensive collection of Canadiana painted and refinished country furniture, stoneware, redware pottery, wooden ware, 19th Century fireplace equipment, textiles, duck decoys, folk art, fine art, etc.
To be held at the Napanee Lions Club Hall on Centre Street in the town of Napanee, ON. the hall can be reached from HWY #401, by taking the HWY #401 interchange at Napanee and proceeding south on HWY #41 (Centre ST), through the town, over the bridge and proceed 100 yards on your left to the auction site.
Highlights of the sale will include a west coast native dugout canoe measuring 18 feet in length, quill boxes, a selection of Western Ontario redware spittoons including miniatures, plant stands, several blue decorated stoneware crocks from both Eastern and Western ON. to include two Tree of Life Skinner crocks, a rare large redware charger with a farm scene painted on the front and signed on the reverse with an impressed mark, J Kennedy, Brantford, ON., other examples of pottery decorated by Kennedy, a small collection of redware banks, a St' Johns child's cup in saucer in blue with raised white decoration etc. a Beaver tea pot, wooden ware to include a burl bowl, several outstanding carved butter ladles, canoe cups, crooked knives, a carved Que. church candle stick (ex. collection of M. Larmon) etc., miniature (or child's) chests of drawers and cupboards, etc., furnishings to include a Wilno blanket chest, Quebec blanket box, a tall case Twiss clock in original painted finish, two Isle of Orleans side chairs, two Quebec Buffet Bas, an Ontario bon lit in original red painted finish, an outstanding small sized flat to the wall cupboard from ON., in it's original painted finish C1850, featuring a glazed top, and flush panels, an early ON. flat to the wall cupboard in blue paint and reeded columns and tombstone panels on the doors, an elaborately carved bench (purchased in Que.) a Mennonite style side table shown on page 61 in Fleming and Rowan "Folk Furniture", other examples in Pain's "Heritage of Upper Canadian Furniture", a Quecbec lamp table in original red painted finish with fans carved in the skirt, a cast iron crucifix, cast iron beaver (ex. Larmon collection), framed Grenfeel rugs, an unusual and rare advertising banner from S. Oberndorffer, Cigar Manufacturer, (from Kingston Ontario), a large figure of a horse, advertising "Black Horse Ale" by Ross Butler (first quarter 20th century) oil paintings and water colors to include an oil painting of two men with dog sled signed C.Krieghoff 1852, decorative frames, a small selection of reference and collectible hard cover books to include a Ltd. Edition leather bound "Heritage of Upper Canadian Furniture" by Howard Paint etc.
