To be held at the Napanee Lions Club hall on Centre St., in the town of Napanee ON., the hall can reached from HWY #401, by taking the HWY #41 interchange at Napanee and proceeding South on HWY #41 (Centre ST.), through the town, over the Napanee River, through the next set of traffic lights and proceed approximately 100 yards on your left to the auction site.
Charles Beale, author of Manly E. MacDonald (1889-1971) “Interpreter of Old Ontario” has sold his historic home in Bath, Ontario and moved to a condominium in Kingston and has asked us to assist him in the partial downsizing of his collection put together over the past 40 plus years.
Highlights of the sale include… a most unusual Canadian piece by Frances Harrington, age 8 years and dated 1840, Kingston, Upper Canada, together with a later Victorian mahogany needlework fire screen done by her at age 63 of King Charles Spaniels in an oval frame, a showcase of English and Canadian watercolours, including a Western Canada Rockies watercolour by Group of Seven artists, Fred Varley (1881-1969), and oil paintings highlighted by the old bridge over the Napanee River by Manly MacDonald - the only one known to have been painted by him in this location, two Manly MacDonald Christmas cards (one signed in pencil to the margin),... a large 19th Century oil on canvas of “The Meeting of Grant and Lee” by Robert Liederman, oil on canvas of two dogs by T. Mower Martin, a winter landscape by Bruce Heggtveit of Ottawa C1995, plus a large number of English 19th Century watercolours and oils, folk art and tramp art, whirly gigs, Staffordshire figures, a collection of framed and in many cases signed photographic portraits of Canadian prime Ministers, a plaster figure of Sir Wilfred Laurier, royalty and Canadian political plates dating from the late 19th Century, table wares in Bennington, Brantford pottery, redware, etc., a selection of Canadian and English furnishings to include a refinished Que. banc lit, a refinished Ont. butternut storage cupboard, an English mahogany banquet table with brass cup casters, a regency sofa in walnut, English mahogany low boy, mahogany drop leaf tables, an outstanding child’s stencilled rocker, a cherry and figured maple chest of drawers with ebonized trim C1850, refinished welsh dresser, one drawer stand, English bar room armchair, and English 19th Century lemon wood desk etc.
