After the sudden passing of Leif Jacobsen, founder of the “Little Denmark Flower Shop” in Hemmingford Quebec, the family has asked us to assist in dispersing his diverse collection amassed over the past 60 years. Offerings will represent a wide range of Canadiana including early furniture, decoys, stoneware, folk art, woodenware, paintings, pre and post-War toys, lighting, etc.
The auction will be held at the Napanee Lions Club hall on Centre Street in Napanee, Ontario. From Hwy 401 take the exit for Hwy 41 south proceeding through the town and over the bridge, bear left 100yds to Lions Club Hall. A preview will be held Friday September 20th, 4:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday morning 8:00am-10:00am.
Furniture includes an 18th century armoire in untouched condition, a four-door cupboard in blue paint, an early buffet with drawers in original surface, a refinished early armoire with double-raised panels and a Louis XIII scalloped base, and a small panelled armoire in cream paint. In addition, a Twiss clock, blanket boxes including a Quebec V chest, early dough box in super surface, a 3-drawer 2-door raised panel pine buffet, several small tables in paint, country couch, early hooded cradle in original paint, grain box, primitive cobbler’s bench, large turned leg table, and a set of 6 decorated chairs. A collection of decorated stoneware (birds, butterfly, floral) includes both American and Canadian makers such as Ballard, Flack and Van Arsdale, Farrar and St. Johns. Also included is a Canadian Sports pitcher (snowshoers and skaters), several Portneuf bowls including a large bowl with peacock motif, “Bennington”pottery, Mocha pitcher and tankard, and an English stoneware water cooler with relief applied motifs.
A large selection of decoys including “name” birds from Quebec, several collector quality goose decoys, some preening/sleeping birds and early duck decoys in original paint. Folk art and treen includes an early salt box in as-found surface, 2-tier candle box, maple sugar molds, relief carved Indian Chief panel, a collection of early carved butter molds, a unique log cabin model, several pairs of snowshoes, early barrel and sap buckets, large piggin, child’s rocking horse in old paint, quantity of carved figures, a collection of Canadiana wooden shovels, paint decorated butter bowl, tackle shop trade sign, gameboards, hooked rugs, penny rugs, and quilts. Miscellaneous items include vintage tin toys and fire wagons, early tin lanterns, collection of forged branding irons, cast-iron farm bell with yoke (16”d), musical instruments, baskets, a full-size Johnnie Walker “striding man“ advertising figure, etc.
